Drawing Parallels

Yesterday, I parallel parked for the first time. Yes, I’ve had my license for about a decade now, but when I got it I didn’t need to pass a test on parallel parking, which made my mom really bitter because SHE had to when she was sixteen. Whatever. That same year they changed the laws back so that you had to know how to parallel park. I’ve always been grateful to have dodged that bullet.

Why would I park this obscene way all of a sudden? Did I get hit on the head by a passing piano and develop a freak fetish for smushing my car between two others? No. I fell in the parking lot yesterday on a thin-but-deadly sheet of ice and my knee and ankle were killing me. I was not, repeat NOT, walking any further than necessary. It wasn’t a micro-millimeters to spare type park job, but I have to say I got in there all straight and perfect. I’m freaking amazed at myself. Usually I don’t care if there’s a mile between cars, I will drive down the block to somewhere I don’t have parallel park.

And, no. I don’t intend to make this a habit. Desperate (ouchie) times called for desperate measures.

Parallel parking made me think about Deidre Knight’s books in the Parallel Series, which made me think of Gena Showalter (The Knight Agency represents her) and the fact that Gena had a book officially release yesterday.

Here’s the prettiness:

Do you see how the water ripples away our view of certain…parts? TEASE!

Here’s what it’s about:

Females young and old, beautiful and plain crave Valerian’s touch. None can resist his blatant sensuality and potent allure…until he steals Shaye Holling from a Florida beach and holds her prisoner in his underwater kingdom.

The cynical Shaye wants nothing to do with the mighty warlord, but she’s inexplicably drawn to him. For underneath the warrior’s arrogant beauty lies a complex and powerful man. A man whose caress is like fire…

Now Valerian must fight for the privilege of claiming her as his own. Because there’s one thing Shaye doesn’t know…

That when a nymph discovers his true mate, she’s his for life.

Go buy it here!

And THEN remembering that Gena released a book made me draw a parallel to my girl, Loribelle Hunt, releasing the fourth book in her Lunar Mates series. I know people have been bugging her for this one, so GO LORI!

Blurbage:

Billy knows all about Chloe’s tragic–and wrong–first mating. With only two short days to convince her they belong together, or risk her running again, what lengths will he go to? Chloe can’t deny the attraction between them, or that she has always wanted Billy. But does she dare risk her battered heart and trust again?

Break you off a piece of that…buy here!

So maybe that wasn’t drawing parallels, maybe it was just be rambling. Or mmaybe there’s a nicer way to put it. Maybe this is more of a stream on consciousness thing? I don’t know. Whatever.

Have a great weekend everyone! And read dirty books!

I hate parallel parking! I’m terrible at it.

    No problem. Dirty is GOOD.

I knew you’d think so, Jen.

And YEAH, Karen. I’m not making this a habit. If my ankle didn’t hurt, I’d have been too scared to try.

Sorry to hear about your ankle and knee. Hope you’re feeling better.

Have you ever checked out any of the Joan Elizabeth Lloyds books yet?

I’m convinced parallel parking is some sick joke that was invented by the Devil.

    It’s evil.

I have to say, I’m good at parallel parking — and I drive a Suburban. But you know how I learned? I tried to always park in front of buildings with windows so that I could see my own vehicle. :D

Let’s hear it for dirty books!
