The To-Do List

Some of you know, I’m OCD about having checklists. Unless I have a list, I am not a happy girl. It reminds me of all the things I need to do, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I can check stuff off the list and see it dwindle. Yeah, I’m weird. I’m okay with that–I drank the Kool-Aid a loooong time ago. I guess we all deal with our balancing act of writing, life, volunteer activities, promotion, work, in different ways. We find the way that works for us. For me, that means being an OCD list maker. If it’s not on one of my lists, I guarantee it will not get done because I’ll totally forget about it.

So, here’s the current to-do list for June.

1. Finish rewrite on current hateful project

2. Go to cousin’s graduation in California

3. Conduct a workshop for Passionate Ink

4. Guest blog over at Shelley Munro’s blog

5. Harass my Stroke of Midnight final judges (as part of the PI VP job) to make sure they get their entries back to me on time

6. Complete proposals on next two projects I’d like my agent to shop

It looks like a pretty manageable list to me…what’s on everyone else’s list? What strategies do you have for keeping it all straight and making sure nothing falls between the cracks?

    That’s it? LOL

Ok don’t shoot me, but seriously can we trade? I like lists too but if I was to make a written list of all the things I have to do for June I would likely become so overwhelmed I would shut down.

Maybe I should bite the bullet and make a fresh list. Being unorganized isn’t fun either. lol

Yeah, see that’s the WRITER to do list. The cousin’s graduation is big enough that it’s on EVERY list regardless of topic, but I have a list for work, a list for life, for groceries, for phone calls I need to make, for emails I have to send. Oy!

    Crystal,

I feel like I have so many things to do this summer. Every weekend feels full and I come home so tired even though I don’t necessarily have a lot to do each evening. I do make lists sometimes, but I’m not always good at following the lists or schedules. I’m excellent at making them and not as good at following through with them unless it’s a short to do list only meant for two or three days.

Currently, I’m planning to re-sub my novella, re-write a previous cowboy novella for a Samhain contest, scout apartments/move, and look for a new day job. I know I can’t accomplish all of this at the same time because I’m not yet an expert at time management. But, these are all goals for the summer.

I hear you, Vivienne. I’m apartment hunting myself on top of everything else. I guess we just take it one day/goal at a time and hope for the best.
