Just What The Bones Ordered…

So, I hate to hop on the same old, same old bandwagon, but the new Star Trek movie?

Made. Of. Awesome.

Smothered in the awesome sauce.

With real whipped cream an awesome cherry on top.

I love Star Trek. Not in a costume-wearing, midnight showing opening day kind of way, but I love it, so I feel pretty qualified in saying that it was really freaking good. They did a good homage to the original without slavishly following it. They made it their own. It was just…a good movie, even without being a Star Trek movie. The fact that it was a Star Trek movie just added a little bit more awesome to it.

But that’s really not the point of my post. I actually wanted to talk about writing. Well, my writing to be specific. You see, my next book has and alien race and space ships in it (and shifters, naturally. And dirty sex, but who’s counting?). The point is, I needed a good, new space movie. It inspired me. I’ve watched the space movies I have to get into the vibe of things, but there’s something about seeing it on the big screen. The size, the magnitude, the way your chair shakes a little when the volume gets loud. It overwhelms you and yanks you right into their world for a couple of hours.

Which, it turns out, is exactly what I needed for a little boost for this book (which is nothing like Star Trek except it has space ships…that look nothing like Trek ships, but they’re still space-faring vessels).

Just what the Bones ordered. And Karl Urban did a great job of him!

The Novelty Girls

I’m over at The Novelty Girls talking about remakes of old books and whether it’s cool to re-purpose someone’s work in a new version.

On The Prowl Signed!

I went to another bookstore and found my books! I signed them. It’s always so exciting. I’m such a dork when I go up to the workers and say, “Um, hi. You have a book I wrote and I was wondering if it was okay to sign in. Um, I’m the author. It’s my book. Yeah.” Because, you know, I’m just that cool when I talk to people. I’m mostly just lucky that a) they believe me, and b) they don’t kick me out for being a psych patient on the loose.

They even gave me a card and told me to set up a signing. Scaaaary!

From Ritalin? Nope, from Vulcan.

The original Star Trek: Beginnings film where Spock is very uncool.

Special Features: Trek Yourself

And even more awesome is The Onion’s parody of disappointed Trek fans about how good the new movie. I cracked up!

Twilight Guardian releases today!

Hey all,

R.G. Alexander’s third book in the Children of the Goddess series comes out later today from Samhain Publishing. Yay! Check it out…details below!

TWILIGHT GUARDIAN by R.G. Alexander

Not even the Goddess can save him…but maybe love can.

Children of the Goddess, Book 3

A Sariel guard, Kit has spent centuries fulfilling his people’s oath to protect the Trueblood Clan. Not Vampire, not Were, and certainly not human, Kit is something altogether…different. And when he is called back home to honor his obligations one last time, he can do none other than obey.

Jesse experiences life behind the lens of a camera. The only time she truly lives is in her dreams. For years she’s imagined a world filled with werewolves, vampires, magic. And him. When she realizes that not only is her dream world real, but the giant of her fantasies is in danger, she’ll have to jump in with both feet, and trust her heart. In Kit’s arms, she learns love is as infinite as time.

But so is a bitter god’s thirst for vengeance.

After a thousand years of duty, Jesse’s love is a gift from the Goddess. But for Kit, it might have come too late…

Warning: Spanking, exhibitionism, giants being kinky…just good wholesome fun.

Librarianista Strikes Back

So, today is the day. I start my new job in my new college library in my new city this morning.

Part of me is super excited, and the other part is off my nut with terror. It’s uncertain which side will win at this point, but I’m hoping for excited.

Also, I’ll have to figure out what I’m doing for lunch after I get there. The student union has to have food, right? And there have to have been some eager restaurateurs who set up shop around campus and are willing to feed me. The reason I can’t bring lunch is…what if they have no fridge or freezer? What if there’s no microwave? I have no idea what their kitchen set-up is, so I figure scope that out day one and bring lunch thereafter.

So much to worry about the first day. Food, parking, meetings, people, what I’m wearing, what kind of new kid impression I’m making. Sure, I did okay in the interview, but now we have to live with each other.

Pray for me.

(Also, I am blogging over at The Novelty Girls…there is comedy. I needed some this week. Come visit!)
