So, I hate to hop on the same old, same old bandwagon, but the new Star Trek movie?
Made. Of. Awesome.
Smothered in the awesome sauce.
With real whipped cream an awesome cherry on top.
I love Star Trek. Not in a costume-wearing, midnight showing opening day kind of way, but I love it, so I feel pretty qualified in saying that it was really freaking good. They did a good homage to the original without slavishly following it. They made it their own. It was just…a good movie, even without being a Star Trek movie. The fact that it was a Star Trek movie just added a little bit more awesome to it.
But that’s really not the point of my post. I actually wanted to talk about writing. Well, my writing to be specific. You see, my next book has and alien race and space ships in it (and shifters, naturally. And dirty sex, but who’s counting?). The point is, I needed a good, new space movie. It inspired me. I’ve watched the space movies I have to get into the vibe of things, but there’s something about seeing it on the big screen. The size, the magnitude, the way your chair shakes a little when the volume gets loud. It overwhelms you and yanks you right into their world for a couple of hours.
Which, it turns out, is exactly what I needed for a little boost for this book (which is nothing like Star Trek except it has space ships…that look nothing like Trek ships, but they’re still space-faring vessels).
Just what the Bones ordered. And Karl Urban did a great job of him!
